Charity Commission on Muslim donations to charity
Monday, August 1st, 2016
On their blog, the Charity Commission mentioned that it is estimated that British Muslims give approximately £100 million to charitable causes during the month of Ramadan this year, which equates to about £38 every second. The blog also reports that the sheer scale of charity work is immediately apparent, “vast and varied”. One charity estimates that it helped over 1 million people in most severe hardship in drought stricken places like Somaliland or conflict zones like Syrian. Muslim charities were also turning their attention closer to home with helping people affected by the floods in Carlisle and running soup kitchens for the homeless in Britain. The diversity of the type of aid being offered is reflecting in one project that helps people to start honey-bee farms in Pakistan and helping build micro-dams in Mali.
