Seventeen year old Jalaal Miller from Liverpool is selected to represent Britain in the All British Weightlifting squad at the European Youth Championships taking place in Sweden. Jalal became involved in the sport after being introduced to it at school and has been a keen competitor ever since.
With the media focus on stories of young people being drawn to radicalisation and extremism, there are many stories up and down the British Isles, like Jalaal’s, that show the positive contribution many youth are making to British society and are doing so proudly.
Mother, Fairoz Miller says “I have grown up in this country but never thought I would truly belong. So, fitting it is, that my feeling of belonging comes from my son who is representing our country in Sweden.” Father Khalid Miller says “He has really taken to weightlifting after he was introduced to it at school. His self motivation and determination is impressive. And it has really helped him focus on his schoolwork.
